PhD Student and Registered Social Worker

Curriculum Vitæ

About

Vincent Mousseau, MSc, RSW is a social worker, researcher, and abolitionist scholar whose work challenges carceral and colonial logics in social work, health, and community care. Their research and practice focus on Black 2SLGBTQ+ survival, ballroom culture as a site of resistance, and transformative justice as an alternative to state-led interventions.

Currently a PhD student in Health at Dalhousie University and a Vanier Scholar, Vincent’s academic work examines the ways Black 2SLGBTQ+ communities navigate and resist institutional violence while building self-determined systems of care. Their approach integrates Afropessimist, anticolonial, and abolitionist frameworks, bridging scholarship with direct community engagement.

Beyond academia, Vincent is an active community organizer and facilitator, working in harm reduction, mutual aid, and transformative justice initiatives that centre Black queer and trans people. Their practice as a registered social worker in Quebec, Ontario, and Nova Scotia is grounded in abolitionist and anti-oppressive principles, offering non-carceral approaches to mental health and community care.

This page provides an overview of Vincent’s academic, professional, and community-based work, including their research, teaching, publications, and ongoing projects.
